KOONYA GARLIC FESTIVAL GARLIC GROWERS COMPETITION
2019 GARLIC COMPETITION AWARD CEREMONY
10.30 - 11.15 AM MAIN MARQUEE
At the heart of the festival lies the iconic Garlic Growers Competition. Last year the competition attracted more entries than ever before, indicating just how passionate we are in Tasmania about our home grown garlic. It's no secret that Tasmania grows some of the best quality garlic in the world and the competition provides the opportunity to celebrate this!
The competition is open to both professional and amateur garlic growers of all ages, and we have some fantastic prizes for the winners., including the coveted 'golden globes''
Judging Criteria The criteria for judging was set at the inaugural festival in 2014 by Paul Healy and respected local chef Eloise Emmett. However, the following year the judging criteria necessitated change. In 2015 the new judging criteria were developed by festival founder Dr Colin Langridge in consultation with soil specialist, multi-ward-winning Tasmanian garlic grower Letetia Ware from Tasmanian Gourmet Garlic, and local garlic growers and competition co-coordinators Graeme Foster and Franz Steinhauser.. The judging criteria have also continued to evolved with each festival from experience and feedback as we developed more knowledge about garlic varieties and judging standards and systems.
The judging criteria for the Koonya Garlic Festival Garlic Competition is now considered commensurate with that of the highest industry standards in the country.
